Les Miserables (2012)

Thanks to Churp2, I managed to capture the screening of Les Miserables a few days before it's out!

Synopsis: Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Miserables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette (Isabelle Allen, Amanda Seyfried), their lives change forever.

Review: Life of Pi 3D (2012)

Thanks to Nuffnang, I got to catch the premiere screening of Life of Pi, one of the highly anticipated movies in 2012 :)

If you didn't already know what this story is about, it's actually taken from the novel of the same title, written by Yann Martel. I read this book nine years ago, and I made it a point to read it again to refresh my memory before I caught the movie. Needless to say,  I was enthralled once again by the prose and how the words flow off the page to paint a picture of what it's like out at sea.

So like an eager bunny, I waited in anticipation for the day of the screening to see if it lived up to my expectations. Tony gave it a 5/5 so I wanted to know if I would give the same :)

Review: L'Oreal Lash Serum

A few weeks ago, I received my L'oreal Renewal Lash Serum review product from OnlyBeauty.

I have always prided myself on having long eyelashes that people envy, but lately I have been experiencing hair fall from my lashes, and I got a little worried that before I know it, I would not have any more lashes left >.<

H-Artistry 2012 Epic Finale @ MIECC

Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending Hennessy's phenomenal 2012 party of the year, the pinnacle of H-Artistry's The Global Art of Mixing Trilogy. It was held at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC for short).

H-Artistry at MIECC delivered an extraordinary mix of stellar musical acts from across the globe, a trademark H-Artistry atmosphere and a palatable blend of signature Hennessy V.S.O.P. long drinks: Hennessy Apple, Hennessy Berry, Hennessy Ginger and Hennessy Soda.

Be K.I.S.S.E.D by Kinerase

Thanks to Tammy and Pat-Lin, I had the pleasure of attending the bloggers' event launch at La Bodega Bangsar for Kinerase' latest product offering.

This product was the result of a 12-week K.I.S.S trial (Kinerase Innovative Skincare Study) where it involved 275 patients from Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Taiwan, 30 physicians, spread out over regular intervals at week 4, 8, and 12. The aim of this trial was to test the effectiveness of the Kinerase cream containing 0.1% Kinetin in enhancing Asian Complexion on real patients, with inspiring results. The main reason why it was tested only in HK, Malaysia and Taiwan was because the product is developed for Asian skin, and how Asian can we get by testing in Asian countries? :)

Movie Review: Skyfall (2012)

Thanks to Nuffnang, I caught the premiere screening of the latest James Bond flick, Skyfall. There has been much buzz about this latest film, what with Adele singing the theme song and all that, and personally I feel Daniel Craig is one of the better Bond actors yet, so I was actually quite excited to see this film.

Nike We Run KL 2012 Aftermath

I'm pretty sure those in the running scene would have heard of the big Nike We Run KL 2012 disaster that happened a few weeks ago. Sad to say, what you have heard, is true. It was everything you've heard, and a little bit more.

All geared up for a good run, which ended in frustration

The entire event seemed doomed from the start, so let's recap the Top 10 reasons why this year's Nike Run 2012 was such a disaster.

Sinister (2012)

Two weeks ago, I managed to catch the premiere screening of Sinister, arguably one of the better horror films made in 2012 :)

Synopsis: True crime writer Ellison (Hawke) moves his family to a small town following up the disappearance of a young girl and hoping to score another bestseller in the process. Unbeknownst to his wife and daughter they move to the exact house where the girl’s family was executed before she vanished. Everything appears normal until Ellison finds a box of Super 8 home movies in the attic which show the family being murdered as well as others, sometimes decades apart. Through research he finds out that each executed family also had a young child that disappeared. Careful examination also reveals the presence of a dark, malevolent figure in the footage. Ellison becomes fixated on the mystery and his obsession soon puts his own family in danger.

Shizens Hydro Series Product Launch @ Mid Valley

Amidst a torrential downpour last Thursday, I managed to make it in time for the launch of the Shizens Hydro Series at Mid Valley. This is my first anti-aging product launch, and on my way there, I was wondering if it's high time for me to start using anti aging products. Nonetheless, I decided to check it out, and I was glad I did :)

Sanook Bistro & Sports Bar @ Plaza Kelana Jaya

Nestled along the length of the LDP, Sanook Bistro & Sports Bar is found at Plaza Kelana Jaya, a little ways from Paradigm mall. It is the place if you're looking for a pleasant place beside a lake away from the bustle of traffic (you can't hear the traffic at all). A few weeks ago, I was invited to dine here to try their new menu, which was a fusion of western and asian. It was an eclectic mix of flavours, and I would recommend this place to everyone who wants to try something new and out of the ordinary :)

The place was pleasant enough, giving off a relaxed environment, with wide open spaces and fans along the corridor.

Never regretted going for it, but before I go into that, let me fill you in on what I experienced at the Muay Thai Saved My Life workshop that I attended as a precursor to Challenge yesterday :D

This is an overview of the Dragon Muay Thai Club, I like how they have open spaces, and gym equipment all in the same place. Everything is so accessible :D

3Q 2012

So, it's been a looooooong while since I updated something personal about my life..

Today is the official close of the third quarter of 2012, and looking back, I can't say that it's been a good one for me. Been going through some roller coasters of emotions lately, and not all of them are caused by work, though some are (and this is what keeps me sane). I'm constantly being reminded at this juncture that everything is just so fragile, and that everything can just break in the blink of an eye.

All that you have worked for, and all that you have done, can be taken away from you the very next day. Your hard earned efforts will gain you no points, but perhaps it's better this way? I'm told that this is something that happens everyday, to too many people we know, and while I take comfort in the fact that I am not alone, I am still left wondering why is it that I feel alone in this?

The people you care about, and have sacrificed a lot for, may not even know it, or may have even chosen to ignore it. There is nothing much you can do except pray and hope that things will turn out for the best and that at the end of the day, it might turn out to have a happy ending even.

But given the dismal outcomes of most of the decisions I've made, I can't help but think that perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel is actually from an oncoming train, ready to destroy everything in its path.

Too many tears have been shed this month, and too much time has been accorded to emo-ness, and maybe it's time to stop that. There is still the remaining three months to the end of 2012, and there is still much to celebrate for. So why not look back and learn from everything, put less emphasis on things and people that do not deserve it, and try to make the most of the remaining days left in 2012.

Hennessy Artistry The Global Art of Mixing Second Installment at KWC

H-Artistry at KWC KL resoundingly set the benchmark for the finale of 2012’s Global Art of Mixing Trilogy by pulling off yet another unmatched party experience for KL party-goers. Personally, this time was more enjoyable for me compared to the first installment in Penang. There were definitely more people, and the songs were awesome to dance to!

Avon's Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk 2012

Breast Cancer is something close to everybody's heart (no pun intended). Almost everyone I know has at least had an encounter with breast cancer, or knows someone who has/ had breast cancer. Statistics shows that 51.3% of breast cancer patients are below 49 years old (for Asia countries). This simply shows that the community needs a lot of awareness among the young generations towards breast cancer, the #1 women killer in Malaysia.

Breast Cancer can not be prevented but it can be avoided by practicing healthy lifestyle, proper diet and regular screening. Have you done your Breast Self Examinations (BSE)? Some might not be aware that  performing BSE could help with breast cancer early detection.

Standard Chartered Marathon 2012

So as you all know, I started running marathons last year, and if you didn't know that already, here's my post *click*

This year, I participated in the Standard Chartered Run again, but this time with a whole lot of other buddies :D

Ran with a group of other people, all with one cause. We went there, and instead of running wearing the Marathon jersey, we wore Anti-Racism T-Shirts. We're hoping that with the T-shirts, people will see it and be reminded that yes, "Racism is so Yesterday". Trying to do our bit for CSR :p

Review: Chernobyl Diaries 2012

Contains spoilers, be warned.

Synopsis: Chernobyl Diaries follows a group of six young vacationers who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme” tour guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone…

Verdict: 3/10. Yes, I am a person who doesn't really like to watch scary movies, and that's where the 3 marks come in, cos they did give me a scare in some parts. But if I had to dissect the storyline, it obviously isn't worth a trip to the cinema. Trust me. There are so many loopholes, and so many unexplained incidents.

  1. There are no ghosts, much as the trailer would like you to believe.
  2. There are no zombies, which was my thought after the ghosts part was eliminated.
  3. They are patients/victims of the original incident. mutated and desire human flesh. Abit potong stim eh :/ How come they can live so long oh? more than 25 years kan? :/
  4. Everyone dies -.-"

Johnny Walker @ Penang

I'm sure lots of you guys would have heard about the trip to Penang that I took a while back :p if you haven't, here's the link *click* I was there for two reasons. Business, and Pleasure :D Business in the morning, and pleasure at night >.< lol sounds so scandalous. But I assure you, it was everything but scandalous :p Had a lot of fun that night, bonded with some long lost friends, and went through a roller coaster night :D

The event was held at Penang Turf Club, which to me didn't make a lot of sense :p Didn't manage to take a picture of the outside, but here's what it looked like inside.

My Penang Trip in August!

So this post will be a post about my Penang trip few weeks ago when I was there for work and also party!! The party post will come up another day, but for now, let's tackle the holiday bit :D

Due to some last minute requests to head up to Penang for work, I decided to make the most out of it and decided to plan something for that Saturday evening with Sher Lynn *cough*JW*cough* :D Managed to plan everything well despite the last minute-ness of things, and here's how our holiday weekend went!!!

Apart from the JW, we managed to do some sightseeing, and try out the famous Penang food :D It's gonna be a looooong post with pictures so brace yourselves!!! :D

Selamat Hari Merdeka ke-55 Malaysia!!

To mark our 55th Independence Day, I have decided to post something up in Malay :) I feel that this would be apt considering what has been going on in the country. The last time I posted in Malay was about 6 years ago, also during the Independence day celebrations.
Oh look! Google also celebrated with us!

Sushi Tei @ Setia Alam Mall, Shah Alam

Growing up, I have never really tried sushi before, even when Sushi King first opened its doors when a major shopping mall opened in my hometown.

But I made my way to KL, and after several tries of eating raw fish, I have decided that sushi is actually quite pleasing to the palate, and the preparation of Japanese food is a delicate art. There are not many good Japanese places around, but one outlet that I have found to be quite reputable is Sushi Tei. Their food is tasty, and you can see there is quality in the preparation.

Therefore it is needless to say that when Sushi Tei opened its newest branch in Setia Alam Mall, Shah Alam, I made my way over there to try it out with a bunch of people :)

OISO Korean Restaurant @ The Sphere Bangsar South

Ever had craving for Korean food but not really wanting to get your clothes smelling like BBQ from the Koren BBQ? And with prices skyrocketing with good food, it's a little hard to get awesome food for a cheaper price :(

But, fortunately for Korean afficionados out there, there's this Korean food shop in The Sphere, Bangsar South that offers you just that! Cheap food with that authentic Korean taste, that'll transport you back to Seoul :) OISO Korean Traditional Cuisine & Cafe is located on the top floor of the Sphere, next to Little Taiwan. They pride themselves on providing only the best home cooked recipes, and after sampling some of their wares, I believe that 100%!!

The exterior of the place. I like how it looks different from most Korean stores out there

Sticky Sweets

Just a quick post from the weekend :D

Last Saturday, le bb and I celebrated our super belated 8th Monthniversary. We would have celebrated it earlier, but we were both just too busy, either with events, or work.

But last Saturday, we finally did, and we went to Kissaten for dinner :D Their pork burger was awesome! but that's for another blog post :p

After dinner, we got home and I left my bag on the floor and went to do some chores. I got back, and noticed a Sticky paper bag on the floor next to my bag, and I distinctly remember there was no paper bag there when I left my bag. So I asked him, and he just kept quiet. Assuming he didn't hear, I asked him again, but again, no response. :/

The third time, I mentioned it and went to the paper bag, inquisitive me started looking into it and was wondering which event he got the Sticky sweets from...then I took it out, and realised that he didn't get it from any event, especially since the messages on the sweets itself contains words like "I Love You", "I Miss You", "Kiss Me", and heart shapes.

And once again, I looked at him, and there he was with his goofy grin. How could you not love someone like that? <3

Coconut Shake @ Klebang Besar, Melaka

Last weekend, I was at Melaka for a LEAD Programme for one of our Lasallian Schools, St. Francis Institution. LEAD basically translates to Lasallian Expedition and Development Programme, which caters specifically to the lower class Form 2 students of the schools.

Trips like these to Melaka, while it serves as an avenue for us to give back to our society, it was also a time for us to enjoy the local delights they have in these quaint little cities. Previously, whenever I went to Melaka, I would love to make my way down to Jonker Street (specifically Jonker 88) for a bowl of their delightful cendol, with lots of Gula Melaka.

That was before I discovered the Original Coconut Shake in Klebang :D

Wagyu Beef @ The Restaurant, The Club Saujana Resort

Few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of experiencing the delicious taste of Wagyu Beef thanks to The Restaurant at the Club, Saujana Resort. I've always heard that Wagyu Beef is prime beef that melts in your mouth and tastes heavenly. Coming here, I was not disappointed :)

Located a little deeper than Saujana Resort, The Club caters mostly to business class parties and expats looking to unwind after a long week at work.

Upon entering The Restaurant, I was mesmerised with the elegant setting of the place. It would be a place I don't mind my bb bringing me for a romantic night out :) Every detail was meticulously arranged, with a bowl of tealight candle lighting up the place at each table.

Review: Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Tint

I have always been a person who loves to use lipstick, but didn't like the drying feeling and dark colours that are so often found in stores. So I resorted to using lip gloss and lip balms instead.

Last week, I was given the chance to review Rimmel's Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Tint, in the shade of Perpetual Plum

This is a non-transfer, kiss-proof formula that gives lips a flush of vibrant colour that stays on duty for up to 12 hours, leaving no trace.

Tong Pak Fu @ Mid Valley Mega Mall

I remember when I was a little girl, I would love it when my mom prepares the green bean tong sui complete with sago balls. I would consume bowl upon bowl of the tong sui for breakfast, lunch and dinner. When I moved to KL, one of the things I missed most about home is my mom's tong sui, and I would go in search of good tong sui shops around KL, but none seem to really satisfy me.

But, I found Tong Pak Fu, and their close resemblance to my mom's tong sui made me reminisce back to when I was younger. Tong Pak Fu is an award-winning and popular Hong Kong dessert house which has an amazing array of both hot and cols, traditional and progressive selection of desserts including a delectable range of shaved ice to cool one down, especially in the hot tropical heat of Malaysia.

Ikuzo Ramen @ ss2 Petaling Jaya

The Ramen Revolution is here! Craving for some ramen but not willing to do so cos it'll hurt your pockets? Well, I've found an alternative, and it's right here in ss2, Petaling Jaya :D

Cheap, delicious and filling, this is the place for you if you want to have a nice bowl of soupy ramen without burning a hole in your pockets :D

The various condiments they have available at Ikuzo. Seriously speaking, this is the first time I've seen so many condiments in one place! Usually it's just the chili oil and sesame seeds xD

MLTR Live in Malaysia 2012 @ Setia City Mall

MLTR was my first love :)

Even before books, the very moment I discovered music, I was exposed to Michael Learns to Rock, and they became my world :) I knew how to sing their song even before I fully understood what the lyrics meant. I was 10 years old.

It's been 16 years since, and they're still one of my favourite bands :) I missed them when they came to Genting a few years ago, and I almost missed them again this time around. But thanks to my dear friend Amelia, I got the chance to catch them perform live at Setia City Mall in Shah Alam.

The coveted MLTR tickets :)

Chilla Cup @ Setia Walk, Puchong

Woohoo! Yet another coffee house is up and by the looks of it, is here to stay :D

Chillacup is a local coffee house located at Setia Walk which just recently underwent a rebranding exercise, shifting its focus on love. Love of food, Love of family, Love of coffee, etc.
