Movie Review: Skyfall (2012)

Thanks to Nuffnang, I caught the premiere screening of the latest James Bond flick, Skyfall. There has been much buzz about this latest film, what with Adele singing the theme song and all that, and personally I feel Daniel Craig is one of the better Bond actors yet, so I was actually quite excited to see this film.

There was so much hype surrounding the film that even Coke Zero had a 'unlock the 007 in you' contest for unsuspecting train travellers hoping to win tickets for the movie. Check out the video here if you haven't seen it yet. I think it's cool :)

So if you don't already know what Skyfall is about, read on to find out :)

Synopsis: 007 (Daniel Craig) becomes M's only ally as MI6 comes under attack, and a mysterious new villain emerges with a diabolical plan. James Bond's latest mission has gone horribly awry, resulting in the exposure of several undercover agents, and an all-out attack on M16. Meanwhile, as M (Judi Dench) plans to relocate the agency, emerging Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee Mallory (Ralph Finnes) raises concerns about her competence, and Q (Ben Whishaw) becomes a crucial ally. Now the only person who can restore M's reputation is 007. Operating in the dark, the world's top secret agent works to root out an enigmatic criminal mastermind named Silva (Javier Bardem) as a major storm brews on the horizon.

Verdict: 8/10 :) I loved it. I think this is the best Bond installment yet for Daniel Craig. In terms of story plot, I think it was very smooth how they subtly paved the way for a new character to come in, and how they showcased the mortality that Bond has, how he is not as untouchable as it would seem previously. Oh and I loved how Q is more hands-on in this film rather than just being the gadget guy in the beginning, and he does seem to have a charm about him, giving off that 'a little wet behind the ears look' if you like nerdy techy dudes :p Ohoho and the villain was very well done. The role was written superbly, and I wouldn't have picked a better person for the job. Although, after watching him in "Eat Pray Love" I am amazed at how well he could pull off this character :p

Gadget wise, there doesn't seem to be a lot of gadgets in this installment, and I would have preferred more, considering that Bond is all about his gadgets. The one gun he was given, he only used once :/ and that particular concept has already been used in Judge Dredd, so no originality there :p

Of course, if you're watching it for the Bond girl in this movie (played by Berenice Marlohe), it's a bit of a 'potong stim' moment :p But it was interesting the way they downplayed her role though.

So do go and catch it at the cinemas!! It's opening on 1st November, so you can catch it this weekend :p

It's good :D
