Movie Review: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013)

Steve the monkey is back!

Thanks to Nuffnang, I got to catch the premiere screening of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at the cinemas before they opened, so what do I think of them? Well, you will have to read on to find out!

Synopsis: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation’s hit comedy left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood’s genius is finally being recognized as he’s invited by his idol Chester V to join The Live Corp Company, where the best and brightest inventors in the world create technologies for the betterment of mankind. Chester’s right-hand-gal – and one of his greatest inventions – is Barb (a highly evolved ape with a human brain, who is also devious, manipulative and likes to wear lipstick.

It’s always been Flint’s dream to be recognized as a great inventor, but everything changes when he discovers that his most infamous machine (which turns water into food) is still operating and is now creating food-animal hybrids – “foodimals!” With the fate of humanity in his hands, Chester sends Flint and his friends on a dangerously delicious mission, battling hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, apple pie-thons, double bacon cheespiders and other food creatures to save the world again!

Verdict: 8/10. The problem when it comes to sequels is that they are ever as good the first one, and you walk away from it feeling disappointed and let down. But not with this one. Though some of the funny bits have already been shown in the trailer, there are still many more to come in the movie, and I loved every bit of it.

I have to say, the scriptwriter really outdid himself with all the names of the awesome foodimals, like susheep (sushi+sheep), shrimpanzee (shrimp+chimpanzee), Tacodile (Taco+Crocodile), Cheespider (Cheeseburger+spider) and many many more! The jokes were not over the top, not lame, and most certainly entertaining.

What I liked about the entire story is that it's a new angle of the story, taking something familiar (like the FLDSMDFR) and turning it into something new. Graphics were good, animations were well done, and the cast was awesome!

So all in all, I would say this is a feel good movie that is just as good as the first one. So go catch it when it opens in cinemas near you!

Fun Fact: Neil Patrick Harris was also one of the voiceovers! Try to guess who :p

Til the next time, stay beautiful!

xoxo,
yin

I just watched it today, love it! And I find the scriptwriter really creative, coming up with those names for the foodimals and the graphics are just woooooww!
