Review: Tebe Lavish and Exfoliating Soap Bar

Hey darlings, how has 2014 been treating you so far? Mine has been pretty hectic with lots of work coming in (which is a good thing of course) :p As we are almost coming to a close of the first month, there's already quite a few events that I've been to, and work is really starting to pick up! But let's take some time off first, and read about what I think of two new products that I have acquired recently, the Tebe Lavish and Exfoliating Soap Bar

In the olden days, before the advancement of technology has brought us much variations in soaps, be it liquid or dry, people have been using bar soaps since time immemorial (5000 years ago!). If biology class serves me right, soap in the olden days was made from animal fats and vegetable oils (still is, actually!). I read somewhere that the Early Romans made soap out of urine! Isn't it a good thing that we don't make soaps out of that anymore? Or are we? Hmmm....

Anyway I digress :p

When I was searching for a birthday present for TBP Mamasan Tammy Lim, I came across Skintopic and decided to get something from there for her. The salesgirl recommended that I get the Tebe Soap Bar for her, and I was a bit skeptical at first, but she insisted that I try it out first, so that I would know that it's really good. And I have to admit, my skin felt really different after trying it out, so I took the plunge, and got it! (I even got the set for Mamasan as well, cos I know she will definitely appreciate it :))

Oh recognise the bottle of Linden Leaves at the side? It's the famed Body Oil, that I got from Skintopic as well :) Wrote a review about it here, so just click it to read it! *click*

So let's start off with the first product, the Lavish Soap Bar :)

Lavish Soap Bar (RM75/ 170g)

To moisturise, cleanse and refresh your skin. Tebe’s triple milled Lavish Soap Bar with olive leaf extract contains a blend of extra virgin olive oil and natural waxes that will produce a rich, creamy lather. pH balanced and lightly scented, your skin will feel soft, moisturised, cleansed and refreshed.

Use daily to help cleanse and hydrate your skin. The mild formulation of this bar makes it suitable for face and body. For external use, and is beneficial for all skin types.

*I love that they have taken the extra step to wrap the soap in its own paper wrapping*

It's so huge!!!! hahaha when I first started using it, my hand couldn't even hold the bar properly and I was actually quite worried that I would drop it. Like, my fingers will be splayed out in order to grab on to the soft corners, and I would soap myself REALLY SLOWLY cos if I really did drop the bar, I WILL CRY. So in the end I cut it into four quarters :)

The texture of the soap is very soft, and after I cut it I had to hold it very carefully to avoid it from crumbling. But after using it the first time, the soap will stick back together and it is as good as new! The power of water I tell you :D So be very careful when you cut it ya :)

According to the sales girl, after long usage, it can actually reduce the dark lines around your inner arms, your armpits, and other crease areas. It is also said to be able to help with eczema prone skin, and upon hearing that, I took another one for my sister as well (I know, I am such a shopaholic >.<)

But you know one thing that I absolutely love about the soap bar? The smell! It has this really delicate flowery scent that's not overpowering and everytime after I bathe with it, I feel like my body is thoroughly cleansed and I have just walked through a field of flowers. Not sure if that's how olives smell like (as it's made from olive oil right) cos I don't eat olives :p

So moving on to the exfoliating soap:

Exfoliating Soap Bar (RM75/ 170g)

The Exfoliating soap helps to stimulate your skin's natural surface. Gently removing dull, lifeless skin, this triple milled, pH balanced blend of ultra-fine olive pips, olive leaf extract, extra virgin olive oil and natural waxes will help to keep your skin moisturised and refreshed.

Use daily to help cleanse and hydrate your skin. The mild formulation of this bar makes it suitable for face and body. For external use, and is beneficial for all skin types. After using the exfoliating soap however, I would prefer not to use it on my face as the olive kernels are actually quite harsh, even on my body.

So what did I think for both the soaps overall?

Verdict: 8.5/10. I love it! I love the smell of the soaps, and I love how my skin is more supple and soft after using it.

Repurchase: Yes for both

Pros
  • Super nice smell that's not overpowering
  • You get really soft and supple skin after using it
  • Easy to lather
  • Easy to rinse
  • Doesn't leave my skin feeling dry and taut

Con
  • Size quite big
  • Texture very soft, so hard to cut (you will need to be very careful)
  • The olive kernels for the exfoliating soap are a little harsh, so you will need to use very little force on your skin while using it

Til the next time, stay beautiful!

xoxo,
yin
