Movie Review: Pacific Rim in 3D (2013)

Pacific Rim, the highly anticipated action movie is finally here! Thanks to Nuffnang, I got the chance to catch it before it's out on July 10th, and if I had one thing to say about it, is that you should watch it in 3D if you can (but otherwise, 2D is good too)

Synopsis:When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.

On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Verdict: 7/10. I would say the storyline is pretty predictable, with aliens attacking us and the end of days coming. There was even the little pep talk that was pretty standard in every apocalypse movie about how we are fighting back and will save mankind. However, having said that, I quite like the concept of the movie. For me it was pretty original, and I like the badass Jaegers :p

I would say this is one of the action movies to watch this year after the slew of disappointing movies that have come out recently (not including MOS), but I do wonder why all these Directors have to direct a movie with SO MUCH DESTRUCTION in them -.-" After all these fight scenes, I sometimes think to myself how hard it must be to rebuild the entire city again.

But anyways, the fight scenes are good. And if you want to watch a movie for something, do watch this one for the fight sequences. Oh and the main cast is not bad looking too :p Although, he does remind me a little of Channing Tatum, albeit with a little more boyish charm.

There are definitely plotholes, but I don't really mind them, so this movie is all good with me. I wouldn't mind watching this movie again, if only for the fight scenes and machines :D If you're looking to catch some fancy action movie this weekend, this would most probably the choice for you

xoxo,
