Review: The Hunger Games (2012)

The Hunger Games!! The widely anticipated movie of the year :) Thanks to Churp2, I managed to catch the screening of the Hunger Games, and wasn't too disappointed :D The Hunger Games is based on the book written by Suzanne Collins.

Synopsis: In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts.

Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem.

The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place.

She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

Verdict? 7/10 :D It was a great movie! but what made them lost the three points was that it got too draggy at the end. It came to a point where I was like, when is this finishing ah? Also, they didn't really expand the characters very well. They also didn't really show how she had sponsors and favours being that we only saw twice of that happening in the movie.

That being said, I loved the premise of the movie, though it was a little gory. I think I squeezed bb's arm til there was no blood left, and he told me that it hurt >.< But overall, I think they did the casting really well. On the cast, Jennifer Lawrence was an inspired casting (you would have seen her in XMen: First Class as Mystique) and the cute Josh Hutcherson of Zathura: A Space Adventure, and Bridge to Terabithia fame is finally all grown up!

The Hunger Games is book 1 in a trilogy,  followed by Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. Wonder if they will make this a trilogy movie series :) can't wait to find out :)

Till then, tata, and may the odds be ever in your favour :D
