Event: Guardian's Charity Walkathon Walk for a Cause Sold Over 2,500 Tickets

Excitement was in the air for thousands for participants as the annual Guardian Walkathon – Walk For A Cause held at Wetlands Park, Putrajaya, kicked off to a rousing start!

Now in its 6th year, the Guardian charity walkathon is aimed at highlighting the importance of a healthy and balanced lifestyle in addition to raising funds for worthy causes. Funds raised at the walkathon goes to the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM), National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and the National Council of Senior Citizens’ Organisation Malaysia (NACSCOM).

This year, the Guardian Walkathon – Walk For A Cause sold over 2,500 tickets. Each beneficiary will receive RM15,000.

In his speech, Mr Ricky Soon, Director of Operations, Guardian Malaysia said, “As the leading pharmacy, health and beauty retailer and a responsible corporate citizen, we subscribe to a philosophy of bringing wellness and giving back to the community we serve. Our Guardian Walkathon – Walk For A Cause, is meant to do just that; inculcate a healthy lifestyle and at the same time contribute to charity.”

In the last six years, through funds raised from the Walkathon, Guardian has reached out to a long list of numerous non-profit government organisations and charities to support their respective initiatives in the care, development and well-being of the local communities, especially women and children.

He added: “We share the view that exercise should be fun and fulfilling and we also believe in the importance of families spending quality time outdoors in activities that can strengthen relationships better. Today, where stress buildup is common amongst many in our community, outdoor activities can help reduce stress, increase energy levels and contribute positively to our physical well-being.”

This year’s walkathon has been expanded to encourage and spur participation from all in the family. The 3 kilometer and 5 kilometer Fun Walk and a 100m Corporate Mascot Dash around the Wetlands Park in Putrajaya was aimed at giving everyone in the family and sponsoring teams, opportunities to join in the fun.

The Top 3 participants who walked in their Most Outstanding Costume won Guardian vouchers worth RM500, RM300 and RM200, respectively.

The event partners for this year are Berocca, Biogrow, Biore, Brands, Dashing, Ensure, Futuro, Lifebuoy, Nivea, Omron, Scholl, Sunplay, Super Kids, Tiger Balm and Vaseline.
