Over 10 million downloads for BBM on Android and iPhone on the first day

Ladies and Gentlemen, for all BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) users who missed BBM when they switched from BlackBerry to Android or iPhones, you don't have to miss BBM anymore! Why is that? because BBM is now available for download on Android and iPhone devices!

The best part is, in just 24 hours BBM™ has been downloaded over 10 million times by Android™ and iPhone® users, one of the best single-day openings for a mobile app to date. BBM, the premier private social network from BlackBerry® (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB), is available for free in the App StoreSM and Google Play™ for immediate download.

When I found out about the BBM app for Android, I downloaded it immediately and sent in my email to queue for the welcome email. It took me one and a half days of waiting before I finally got the email stating I am at the start of the queue, after which I quickly opened my app and registered with my existing BlackBerry ID, I say existing, because I used to be a BlackBerry user :)

BBM also quickly rose through the rankings on the App Store to be the number one free app in more than 75 countries in the first 24 hours, including the US, Canada, the UK, Indonesia and most of the Middle East. User ratings in both the App Store and Google Play are overwhelmingly positive, earning BBM 60,000 five-star reviews on Google Play from about 87,000 reviews.

BBM users, old and new, are enjoying the following features:

BBM Chat – Enjoy real, immediate conversations with friends on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. Not only does BBM let people know their message has been delivered and read, it also shows them when a contact is responding to a message.

More than chat – With BBM, customers can simply and instantly share files such as photos and voice notes. Multi-person chats are a great way to invite contacts to chat together.

Get in the Group – BBM Groups lets users invite up to 30 friends to chat together, as well as share photo albums, calendars and files.

Don't worry if you don't have a BlackBerry ID, you can just easily create one by registering, and you can get started immediately!

Apart from the normal chat functions, you can also do the following:

Post Updates and stay in the know – BBM lets people post a personal message, profile picture and a current status, and lets contacts see statuses instantly in Updates.

Your unique PIN – Every BBM user has a unique PIN that maintains privacy, so users are not required to ever give out their phone number or email address to a new or casual contact.

Out of all the features, I think the PIN is the most important of all for me. It lets me connect only with the people that I want to connect. This saves me the hassle of having to screen through my contacts as whoever is in my BBM list will definitely be someone that I know, instead of trying to guess who it is.

Not only that, Android and iPhone users will have access to BBM Voice and Video calling, as well as the new community building tool – BBM Channels – in the near future. I'm definitely looking forward to that :) It's all in one!

See the little star Icon on the top left? that shows you have a new message, and the familiar BBM message ping is comfort to my ears :)

Last but not least, BBM is always connected, so you don't have to worry about missing another chat with your friend ever again :)

Til the next time, stay beautiful!

xoxo,
yin

that's so true! I loved the BBM, and when I switched to Android, I was so sad that they didn't have BBM. But now I do! :)
