Review: Neutrogena Deep Clean Series

Holla ladies!

Our skin is one of the most important parts of our body, and it is the largest organ that we have, so it is only normal that we take care of it the best we can.

For me, the best cleansers are the one that thoroughly cleanses without drying or irritating the skin, and I think I might just have found it with Neutrogena.

Thanks to the Neutrogena team, I was given the opportunity to review some of their best selling products, and the best part was that these products were catered to my skin type. As we wash our face daily, the products we use must be suitable for our skin, which is why products that are specially cherry picked for you almost always yields the best results.

So what products did I try out?

The products I will be reviewing today are from the Deep Clean series, which are the Brightening Foaming Cleanser, Brightening Cleansing Oil to Foam, and Blackhead Eliminating Scrub. Each were selected and are suitable for daily use.

Deep Clean Brightening Foaming Cleanser (100g, RM21.70)

The Brightening Foaming Cleanser provides effective cleaning (99% impurity removal) that leaves the face looking clean and bright. This happens because of the use of mulberry extract and a whitening vitamin complex. Whitening complex in this context consists of AA2G (Ascorbyl Glucoside) & Mulberry Extract – Ascorbyl Glucoside that helps inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase, responsible for melanin production.

Mulberries are known to contain Ascorbic Acid and Niacin. Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is a tyrosinase inhibitor that is known to brighten skin. Niacin (Vitamin B) is known to inhibit melansome transfer and also brighten skin.

Ingredient list
The product has a bit of a pearly sheen to it, and I only needed a little bit of the product for my face, which is no large feat, considering how big my face is T.T

In terms of consistency, it's quite dense, which is a plus point for me, as I don't really fancy formulas which are too liquid, lest it runs all over my palms when I use it.

My verdict?

The foaming cleanser is gentle enough for everyday use, and foams up easily enough. Only a little bit of water is needed to foam it to a lather. I used this every morning and night, as part of my skincare routine. In the mornings after I wake up, at night after I remove my makeup and before bed as part of my double cleansing ritual.

Only a little bit of  water is needed to foam it to a lather
After cleansing, my face does not feel taut and dry, instead it feels cleaner than I would feel when using other brands. One of the reasons I like using this product is that because I only need a little, for the price one would have to pay for it, it is quite value for money.

Deep Clean Brightening Cleansing Oil to Foam (142ml, RM44.90)

Neutrogena Deep Clean Brightening Cleansing Oil to Foam gives you dual cleansing experience in one wash with dual-transformation process. Mulberry extract reveals a visibly brighter and healthier glow. For clean and fresh results, start smart with the first skincare step! Enjoy effective cleansing power of make-up remover and refreshing creamy bubble of cleansing foam at the same time. Additionally, mulberry extract rich with vitamin C & B3 will brighten your skin for a healthy glow. Experience dual cleansing with only one wash now.

Ingredient list
I was quite excited to use this as I prefer as little steps for my skincare routine as possible. But of course, I am not discounting the fact that I need to take as many steps to ensure my skin stays young and I look like I'm forever in my twenties *wishful thinking*

So this product pumps out oil and claims to be able to remove everyday makeup, after which it foams up and functions as a cleanser. This is step one of my cleansing routine, which I love because of its dual function. Makeup remover and cleanser all in one.

I quite like the nozzle. For me, it gave me a better grip with its wide surface area, as opposed to the normal ones where your finger might slip cos the surface area is too small. This nozzle reminds me of the Glamglow ones :)

Pumps out oil...

...turns into foam after application.

What do I think?

The product removes daily makeup easily enough. Not so much for waterproof makeup, as there was still some residue remaining, but overall, it's cleansing power is quite good comparably to other brands out there.

For someone on the go that doesn't really have a lot of time for skincare rituals, this is a very good product to have, due to its double function. For me, I double cleanse with either the foaming cleanser, or the blackhead scrub. Not because this product is not good, used on its own it's quite efficient. When I tone my face after using this product, the cotton pad comes off clean. But because I normally double cleanse every time, regardless what product it is.

Another check in my list is it's nozzle, which I wrote about earlier.

Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub (100g, RM23.70)

Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub doesn't just fight blackheads, it helps eliminate them for clearer, smoother skin. This gentle scrub immediately works two ways to not only clear out the blackheads you have now, but also to help prevent new ones from forming. First, you'll feel it tingle as its maximum strength acne medicine, Salicylic Acid, penetrates deep to eliminate blackheads by removing stubborn dirt and oil trapped inside pores. Then, you'll feel its gentle, skin-soothing microbeads exfoliate without overdrying to help stop blackheads before they start.

Ingredient list
When I squeezed out the product, I thought the orange beads were the only microbeads and I remember thinking, they're too little, which would defeat the purpose of having the microbeads in there.

Then I rubbed my hands together and then I felt it. Basically the entire formulation (or most of it anyway) is made up of the microbeads. Those little specks of white that you see are the beads. And yes, there are tons of them.

My thoughts?

I love it! I could feel the microbeads doing its job, sloughing away my dead skin, leaving my face smooth, soft and supple. The formulation is gentle enough to be used on a daily basis, so this can be a two-in-one facial cleanser and scrub. I wanted to test how hard the microbeads were, so I was really using force to see how it would affect my skin (DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME LADIES), but my skin didn't feel much pain at all, unlike some scrubs that I have used previously.

For me, I could still feel the microbeads doing its work in removing the dead skin cells on my face, but none of the rough harshness of the beads. It washes away easily enough, and my face feels that little bit brighter, thanks to its effective removal of all the dead skin.
